Ragdoll Cats |
|
| |
Many stories surround the origin of the Ragdoll
cat's name and habit of adorably going limp in your arms. Most
of these stories are actually impossible, such as the story
that says it was because of the mother being hit be a car during
pregnancy that all the kittens were born to go limp and floppy
when handled.
Ragdolls were first developed in California in the 1960s by
breeder Ann Baker. She selectively bred cats to include their
most appealing characteristics such as docility and gentility.
The first Ragdoll was called Josephine.
Ragdolls are semi long haired cats with thick, silky fur and
points like those on a Siamese cat. These cats are quite slow
maturing- male cats can take about four years to fully develop
and their points aren't fully apparent until they are about
two.
